EDC PUMP SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS

Things You Will Need

  • EDC Pump Seal/O-Ring Cap Kit SP1C0021
  • Pick tool/O-ring puller
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Waterproof Grease
  • 8mm Hex key (Included in the EDC multi tool)
  • clean cloth

Service Time: Approximately 15 minutes         Difficulty: Easy 

We recommend that you look at the Exploded view & read ALL steps of the service instructions before you begin.

 

DISASSEMBLY 

When you disassemble the pump we recommend you check all the components for damage and wear and clean them.

 

STEP 1: HANDLE & CAP REMOVAL

Remove EDC tool or handle cap (7)  from handle (6) of pump and set aside. 

 

Extend the pump. While holding the green piston tube (1) , unscrew the handle (6) by turning it counter-clockwise. 

 

STEP 2: HANDLE SEAL & O-RING REMOVAL

Remove the o-ring (10B) from the piston tube (1) and slide handle seal (8) off the ram tube (4). 

 

 STEP 3: INFLATOR ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

With an 8mm Hex/Allen Key or by hand, unthread Inflator Assembly (13) from Valve cap (3).

 

STEP 4: VALVE CAP REMOVAL

Hold the ram tube (4) of the pump and unscrew the valve cap (3) counter- clockwise.

 

STEP 5: PISTON TUBE REMOVAL

Push piston tube (1) out the pump head side of the ram tube (4).

 

STEP 6: CLEANING

Clean any girt,dirt or old grease from pump components.

 

REPLACING O-RINGS & SEALS

Be careful with your pick tool! Scratching the grooves that the O-ring seals sit in can cause seal failure.

Lightly Grease all new O-rings before installation

 

 

STEP 7: VALVE CAP (3) O-RING REPLACEMENT

Using a pick tool, carefully remove the outer O-ring (17) from its seat. Replace with corresponding, lightly greased O-ring from Seal kit (SP1C0021). ensure O-ring is properly seated all the way around.

 

STEP 8: SEAL PLUG REPLACEMENT

Remove the seal plug (15) by hand or using your pick tool. Lightly stretch the new seal plug over the valve cap (3). Ensure it is seated correctly all the way around.

 

STEP 9: CHECK VALVE SEAL REPLACEMENT

Using your needle nose pliers unthread inline check (9) from valve cap (3). You can now replace the check valve seal (11). DO NOT GREASE CHECK VALVE SEAL. Ensure the check valve seal is centered during installation.

 

TIP: Place new valve check seal (11) into the inline check (9) and thread it back into the valve cap (3) while holding the whole unit upright. This will help keep the seal in the correct position. 

Set valve cap (3) aside until assembly.

 

STEP 10: PISTON TUBE (1) O-RING REPLACEMENT

Using your pick tool, carefully remove O-ring (10A). Replace with the new, lightly greased O-ring from Seal kit. The piston head (2) does not require removing for this service. O-ring (12), which sits on the piston head, below O-ring (10A), also does not require replacement.

 

NOTE: O-ring (10B) will be reinstalled during reassembly. Have the new O-ring lightly greased and set aside with the piston tube (1). 

You are now ready for reassembly.

 

ASSEMBLY

 

STEP 11: PISTON TUBE INSTALL

Slide the green piston tube (1), threaded side first back into the ram tube (4).

 

STEP 12: HANDLE SEAL & O-RING INSTALL

Replace the handle seal (8) on the ram tube (4).

 

Slide O-ring (10B) just past the threads of green piston tube (1).

 

STEP 13: HANDLE INSTALLATION

While holding the piston tube (1), thread the handle (6) onto the piston tube until tight. Take care when starting the threads to avoid cross threading.

 

STEP 14: VALVE CAP INSTALLATION

While holding the ram tube (4) with one hand, thread the valve cap (3) into the ram tube until tight. Take care with starting the threads to avoid cross threading.

 

STEP 15: INFLATOR ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION

Thread the inflator assembly (13) by hand, back into the valve cap (3).

 

STEP 16: HANDLE CAP INSTALLATION

Insert handle cap (7) or EDC tool.

 

STEP 17: TEST PUMP 

Test pump for proper function before putting it on your bike or in your kit! You can do this by holding your thumb firmly over the valve and pump the handle. If the handle cannot be compressed then it is good to go!
